If we are to restore our country, we all must get “back to basics” and return to the core values that have withstood the test of time. Just as Jeremiah, the prophet of old proclaimed,
“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16).
The problem is, the people rejected the principles that provided for a strong and prosperous nation. Jeremiah retorts with a message from God on high,
“But you said, ‘We will not walk in it…Therefore hear, you nations…Observe what will happen to them…I am bringing disaster on this people, the fruit of their schemes, because they have not listened to my words and have rejected my laws.” (Jeremiah 6:16,19).
To get America “back on track” to recover the American Dream, the first step starts with each of us renewing our pledge and commitment to our national motto, “In God We Trust.”
But, if we continue on the same path we’re now on, then as it says in the book of Chronicles:
“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain (no food), or command locusts to devour the land (economic depression), or send a plague among my people (pandemic disease), if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (II Chronicles 7:13,14).
As a first step I’d like to offer you a resource—a copy of my small pocketbook, Battlefield Verses. While this was originally written to encourage our men and women in the military, I’ve recognized that all of us are in the battlefields of life, with challenges, disasters, pain and suffering—we ALL need encouragement, along with “An Appeal to Heaven.”
Second, if you are one to volunteer to join those on the front lines to restore our country but believe you may need some additional resources and preparation, then my new book, The Gospel, On Point, Sharpening the Sword, is for you. With so many people fearful and in despair, we can equip ourselves to deliver the only message that will provide the absolute assurance and confidence to be rescued by Divine Providence—The Good News of Jesus Christ—John 3:16.
Finally, there is a guarantee of a better tomorrow. The prophet Jeremiah went on to proclaim,
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
(Jeremiah 29:11-13).
Beginning with a renewed faith and trust in God and preparing ourselves with the Word of God, we can restore ourselves, our families, our communities, and our Republic. Equipped for battle, we can press on—To fight the good fight! America can once again be, “…that shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere.” *
